The Northern Circuit route is one of the best routes on Kilimanjaro, offering nearly 360 degrees of beautiful scenery including the quiet, rarely visited northern slopes. As the longest route on Kilimanjaro, the Northern Circuit also has the most acclimatization time and the highest summit success rate. Thus, the Northern Circuit route is highly recommended. The route approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the west, beginning with a long drive from Moshi to Londorossi Gate.

Tour Itinerary

  • 1
    Day 1: Arrival & pre-climb briefing at Moshi

    Direct arrival at a lodge in Moshi at the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. This evening you will have a pre-climb briefing with your guide and a consultant.

    Day 2 : Moshi based lodge to Londrossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa (Big tree) camp

    Depart Moshi to Londorosi gate, upon arrival at the gate complete park formalities, you will then be driven to Lemosho starting point, start your hike through a rain forest while enjoying watching wild animals

    Day 3 : Mti Mkubwa (Big tree) camp to Shira One camp

    Continue through the forest, steeply climbing into the heather and moorland zone, crossing the Shira Ridge, and descending into the Shira Plateau.

    Day 4 : Shira One camp to Shira Two camp

    A slow-paced hike across the Shira Plateau through the heather and moorland

    Day 5 : Shira Two camp to Moir Camp

    A short acclimatisation trek arriving at the base of the North West alpine desert, the destination for today.

    Day 6 : Moir camp to Barranco Camp

    Today you leave Moir Valley behind and continue in the alpine desert zone. Your night will be spent at a lower altitude than the night before

    Day 7 : Pofu camp to Third cave camp

    Make your way across the alpine desert, as you trail ends joining the Rongai route where once again your night will be spent at a slightly lower altitude than the night before.

    Day 8 : Third cave camp to Kibo camp

    Journey across the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo.

    Day 9 : Kibo Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka camp

    Around mid-night start for the summit to Gilman’s Point (5681m) and then continue to Uhuru Peak (5895m). Descend Barafu Camp for a short break and later continue to Millennium Camp or Mweka Camp for overnight

    Day 10 : Mweka camp to Mweka gate to Moshi

    Today is the final day on the mountain; enjoy your breakfast before descending to Mweka gate passing through forest zone. Upon arrival at the gate complete park formalities and tipping ceremony with your support team. Our driver will then transfer you to Moshi
